CHANTAL MENDES

Course: BA Hons. Business Administration (Marketing)

University: University of Kent

Current Graduate Rotation: Junior Project Manager Murano

Joined Nissan: November 2009

The program has been everything I expected and more. Since joining Nissan I have learnt and developed a range of new and existing skills, been given responsibility and freedom to seek opportunities and challenges.

There is definitely a work hard, play hard mentality at Nissan, whilst meeting the objectives within your daily role there are many benefits available. I have experienced our products on track days, taken part in company events such as a Gumball rally to Goodwood and even raising money for charity by driving a Nissan 'banger' all the way to Monaco.

In my current rotation I have been given full responsibility for launching the New Murano Diesel into market. This has allowed me to develop both my marketing skills and cross functional working with other parts of the business to ensure a successful launch on a minimal budget. A tough challenge but a fantastic way to getting fully involved with a car launch.

The Nissan Graduate programme has provided me with the opportunity of working on a number of key projects which has influenced the growth of the business. The program is very well organized with a clear sense of direction which allows you to work in a cross functional environment widening your knowledge on key areas of the business. I believe that the Nissan graduate program has set me on a clear path to lead a successful career in marketing.

If you are a self motivated individual, there is plenty of opportunity to excel amongst a closely knit group of people. With regards to your assessment day, I'd advise all applicants to prepare well in advance, try your level best to be yourself and enjoy the day. Don't let the nerves get the better of you.

Course: BSc Politics with Economics

University: University of Bath

Industrial Placement Role: Communications Coordinator

Joined Nissan: July 2010

Having worked in the press office for a short time I have already been exposed to an incredible variety of work. This has ranged from looking after the press fleet and booking cars out to press agencies, keeping abreast of the coverage we receive and logging it, to attending events and dealing with journalist's requests. The nature of press means everything moves at a fast pace; one is constantly on the phone to journalists and various agencies.

Whilst it can be hard work it is a real privilege and is incredibly rewarding and interesting, especially if you are a petrol head like me. The team are delightful and are always willing to answer questions and help which makes for a very pleasant working environment. The learning curve is steep, but the experience is invaluable and I would recommend Nissan and the Press Office to anyone who has an interest in cars and the media.

My Nissan Industrial Placement year so far has been an exciting and challenging experience. It has enabled me to develop an understanding of how the Marketing department works and how I can make a positive impact in both my department, and the company as a whole.

My position at Nissan has a wide range of different tasks from creation of dealer literature to competitor analysis. Nissan has given me the opportunity to participate in key business events such as motor shows and race events. I feel that this Industrial Placement Year has given me a set of skills and experience that will set me apart from any other candidate once I have graduated from university
